Year in Review: CNY Dinner, Ski Trip, Culture Night and more
Members have had (and will continue to have) many good times this year; recalling the events below will hopefully evoke wonderful memories among all
The author of this article googled "Singapore Quotes" and found quite a few, including one by a certain Jose Andres, who remarked, "I was very impressed with the street food of Singapore. I was very impressed with the dishes that they did."
Andres would do well not to merely be impressed by Singapore's scrumptious food, but also the energy and dedication of UCLA's SSA members, who have had much fun over the past year and will surely continue to do so next year.
It is surely fitting, however, to look at a year in review by beginning with the start of the year. Every Winter Quarter, in January, there is an SSA-MAS (Malaysian Association) ski trip. Whether one is already an expert skier or a total novice at skiing, this event gives SSA and MAS members a chance to trade the LA heat for cooler temperatures at Big Bear Lake. Even if you're not the most athletic person, facilities such as a foosball table, pool table and projector provide great entertainment opportunities.
Another exciting event is the annual Chinese New Year (CNY) Banquet Dinner. While in LA, CNY visiting is but a distant prospect, the CNY Banquet Dinner allows Singaporeans to gather and enjoy the festive vibes of CNY.
Throughout the year, SSA members also enjoy many other fun activities, even if they are things as simple as movie outings or games like frisbee. But one of the biggest events of the year is SSA-MAS Culture Night, which provides members with the opportunity to be involved in a stage production. Everything from casting to choreography, script-writing and props, is handled by members of the two associations. This event allows SSA and MAS members to offer the rest of the UCLA student body a glimpse into diverse life experiences and cultural backgrounds.
Photos of various events can be found on the SSA Facebook Page, while a few from years gone by can be seen below. In order, they depict students at the ski trip, students performing during Culture Night, and students gathered after CNY potluck dinner.
