Tired of people imitating the 'lahs' and the accent?
If you hail from Singapore, or spent some time living there.. join us! Our main info channel is found here.
The UCLA Singapore Students Association organises various events and activities for the Singaporean community at UCLA, and serves as a valuable support network too. This website serves as a quick and easy overview of SSA, what it does, and who its committee members are.
If you have chanced upon this website or don't know what or where Singapore is, Singapore is a tiny island nation located in Southeast Asia (and it's smaller than Rhode Island!). The distance from Singapore to LA is about 8700 miles (14000km), which means a 20-hour flight back for most of us when we go home for breaks, crossing the Pacific Ocean. It's just 1 degree north of the equator and has a tropical equatorial climate (meaning it's hot and rainy), as well as fantastic food and friendly people, most of whom are Chinese, Indian or Malay.
To the right are a few pictures representing things dear to many Singaporeans. If you do ever visit Singapore, make sure you take the chance to experience these sights!
Singapore's skyline, showcasing iconic landmarks and tourist sites. The wheel you can see on the right is the Singapore flyer, while the other buildings form part of Marina Bay Sands, a popular leisure and tourism destination.
Hainanese chicken rice, one of Singapore's national dishes, amongst others like chilli crab and fried carrot cake.
Singapore flags being waved at the National Day Parade (held August 9 each year).
The Merlion (a lion-fish hybrid), our national icon, spitting out water at dusk in Orchard, a prominent shopping district.
